
JACKIE MITTOO
Jackie was taught piano by his grandmother who was a music teacher. At age four he was a consistent student of piano, and played classical music at an early age.

JOE HARRIOTT
Harriott contracted tuberculosis in 1958 and spent six months recuperating in hospital. It was there that he began to develop his new approach to music that he called ‘free form’.

TOMMY McCOOK
Tommy was a Jamaican saxophonist. A founding member of The Skatalites, he also directed the Supersonics for Duke Reid, and backed many sessions for Bunny Lee and with the Revolutionaries at Channel One Studios in the 1970s.

ROLAND ALPHANSO
Roland Alphonso aka The Chief Musician from Havana, Cuba. He was a Jamaican tenor saxophonist.

CARLTON BARRETT
Carlton ‘Carly’ Barrett was the originator of the one drop rhythm – a percussive drumming style.

Don Drummond
Don Drummond was a famous ska trombonist and composer, and also one of the original members of the Skatalites.
