Africa Development Coordinator

Booyaka’s Africa Development Coordinator is Phillip Rose.   He has been a pace-setter in the music industry, always playing the role of “Captain”.   He has a gift of putting things together, and pulling people together, for a common good.  Phillip’s love for music and leadership, started in his homeland, Jamaica and flourished in Luton, UK where he became Youth Development Officer for the Bedfordshire County Council.  His roots were planted solid in Luton, and his guidance and direction led him into Music Management.

His background stems from Luton Polytechnic and London College of Youth & Urban Development. Phillip was always focused – Business Administration.  Business was his way forward, more pointedly, the Business of Music.  Phillip set out to use his skills in Business, Marketing, Production and people skills, which he learned at Vauxhall Motors in Luton, to get involved with projects from the Caribbean to Europe to Africa.

Phillip brought his skills to the Mark Morrison tour of Nigeria in 2002, becoming a big part of the concert Production.   Same year, The Eve, KC & JoJo tour of Nigeria, and Africa by extension, also sought his expertise, for the best ‘Mama Africa’ experience.

He made a giant leap going from King Tubby’s Sound Production in Chicago to managing acres and acres, of farm land in Ghana.   Phillip is passionate about connecting the music genres and authentic drum beats that link Africa and the Caribbean.  He continues his research on how Africa’s history and their music have impacted our music in Jamaica.  Phillip says, “Indigenous and traditional are key influences in the music, and how we use that information to impact our Booyaka project”.

Phillip is in Ghana and Nigeria, working to improve the Booyaka brand.  He has been the real brand ambassador on the motherland.
